How to convert units
Most unit conversions work by converting the original value into a base unit, then converting from that base unit into the target unit. To convert kilometres to miles, convert kilometres to metres first, then metres to miles.

Temperature is the exception. Its scales differ in where zero sits as well as in step size, so each conversion uses a formula rather than a single multiplier.
